First Grade, "Musical Emotion"

We had a great time in First grade Music today! We talked about how music is used to convey and express feelings and emotions, just like an artist uses a medium to express their feelings. I had the students talk about different colors and what emotions they would associate with the colors. Then, I played three different pieces:

A happy piece: The Four Seasons- "Spring"
A sad piece: Swan Lake Suite
An angry piece: Carmina Burana- "O Fortuna"

I then had the kids color and draw to the music. I told them to draw whatever came into their mind, and however the music was making them feel. Their drawings were very creative! They had a great time and it was a great way to show the students how Music and Art can work together!
